Rumpelstiltskin Mug Rug Coaster

The griddle stitch pattern creates a soft texture ideal for any fabric and occasion!

*The griddle stitch is an alternating pattern between SC and DC. Make SC stitches in DC stitches from previous row, then DC in the SC from previous row. Each row should always start with a SC and end with a DC, Chain 1 and turn.

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Tapestry needle

Hook size: I/5.50mm

Abbreviations:
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
SL ST = slip stitch
ST = stitch

Gauge:
4 stitches = 1" across
2 rows = 1" height

Special Notes:
Chains do not count as stitches in this pattern.
End on DC stitch throughout pattern.

Pattern Instructions:
Chain 13.
Row 1: SC in second chain from hook, DC in next chain, *(SC, DC) repeat across to end of chains, Chain 1, turn. (12 sts)
Row 2: SC in first stitch, DC in next, *(SC,DC) repeat across to end of row, Chain 1, turn. (12 sts)
Row 3 - 10: Repeat R2. (12 sts)
Break yarn, weave ends.

Assembly:
You should now have a square shaped piece of fabric. Cut 6" lengths of yarn (12 per side). Create little tassels to run along the edge of the opposite sides of your mug rug. I paired two pieces together and spaced 6 tassels along each side. (See image for reference.) I pulled the middle of both pieces through a gap in the last row, then fed the tails through the small loop. Pull tight and you have a cute little tassel!

*Alternate option: No tassels and a single crochet border around the entire piece. Or, more tassels as desired.

If you try this pattern, I’d love to see your finished product! Sharing is caring.

Rumpelstiltskin Hand Warmers

The griddle stitch pattern creates a soft texture ideal for any fabric and occasion!

*The griddle stitch is an alternating pattern between SC and DC. Make SC stitches in DC stitches from previous row, then DC in the SC from previous row. Each row should always start with a SC and end with a DC, Chain 1 and turn.

Sizes: Infant - Adult
(Hand Around x Length)
Infant: 4.5" x 4.5"
Toddler: 5.5" x 5.5"
Child: 6.5" x 6.5"
Teen/Adult S: 7" x 7"
Women/Adult M: 7.5" x 7.5"
Men/Adult L: 8.5" x 8.5"

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Tapestry needle
Stitch Markers

Hook size: I/5.50mm

Abbreviations:
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
SL ST = slip stitch
ST = stitch

Gauge:
4 stitches = 1" across
2 rows = 1" height

Special Notes:
Chains do not count as stitches in this pattern.
Dimensions are based on averages, (Circumference x Length).
Measure the intended hands (around the widest part of the hand) for an ideal fit.
End on DC stitch throughout pattern.

Pattern Instructions:

Teen/Adult Small:
Chain 28+1
Row 1: SC in second chain from hook, DC in next chain, *(SC, DC) repeat across to end of chains, Chain 1, turn. (28 sts)
Row 2: SC in first stitch, DC in next, *(SC,DC) repeat across to end of row, Chain 1, turn. (28 sts)
Row 3 - 16: Repeat R2. (28 sts)
Leave 10 - 12" yarn tail for sewing sides.

*Refer to the guide below for various size options. Replace the “Chain xx+1” with your respective size for number of stitches and rows.

Pattern Guide:
(Stitches x Rows)
Infant: 16 sts x 8 rows
Toddler/1- years: 20 sts x 12 rows
Child/-10 years: 24 sts x 14 rows
Teen/Adult S: 28 sts x 16 rows
Women/Adult M: 30 sts x 18 rows
Men/Adult L: 34 sts x 20 rows

Assembly:
You should now have a rectangle shaped piece of fabric. Fold in half and use stitch markers to align sides to each other. I placed stitch markers to also indicate where to leave an opening for my thumb. Sew up the side, skipping the section for the thumb hole. Add buttons or ribbons to embellish as desired.

*You may choose to sew the entire length (minus your thumb hole/opening) or you may choose to add buttons as fasteners. I decided to add buttons as fasteners and stopped sewing the side near where my hand meets my wrist. That left about 6 - 8 rows not joined at the bottom. I sewed the buttons on one side and used the natural gaps in the opposite side to act as the button holes. (See image below for reference.)

I created my hand warmers to fit my hands snug but not too tight. Using an I hook in this pattern will give your fabric gentle ease. Please keep in mind that I tend to crochet a bit loosely, so you may need to adjust your hook size down or decrease stitch count to obtain the desired hat size. I have calculated sizes based on average head measurements.

If you try this pattern, I’d love to see your finished product! Sharing is caring.

Continue to repeat Row 2 until you have reached desired length.

Refer to the guide below for various size options. Replace the “Chain xx+1” in Row 1 with your respective size for number of stitches and rows.

Pattern Guide:
(Stitches x Rows)
0-3 months: 36+1 stitches, 12 rows
3-6 months: 42+1 stitches, 14 rows

Teen/Adult S: 60+1 stitches, 24 rows
Adult M: 62+1 stitches, 26 rows
Adult L/XL: 64+1 stitches, 28 rows

Assembly:
You should now have a rectangle shaped piece of fabric. Fold in half sew up the side of your hat with a tapestry needle and yarn. Align edges with care as you sew - sometimes the fabric can get off a row as you sew.

When you reach end of side, continue to sew across the next edge to close the top of the hat. Finish and weave in yarn tail.

Create two pom-poms. Add one to each corner of the top of the hat. (You could also create small pom-poms and add more than one to each corner.) To finish off my double pom-pom hat, I added one round/row of double crochet stitches around the bottom of the hat. You could also finish your hat with single crochets or other types of crochet stitches. (See images for reference.)

I created my hat to fit my head with a bit of give because I don’t like them super tight. Using a J hook in this pattern will give your fabric gentle ease. Please keep in mind that I tend to crochet a bit loosely, so you may need to adjust your hook size down or decrease stitch count to obtain the desired hat size. I have calculated sizes based on average head measurements.

If you try this pattern, I’d love to see your finished product! Sharing is caring.

Finish:
Weave ends into scarf. Add pom-poms to each end if you desire. I think the pom-poms looks especially cute on children's scarves.
Alternatively, you could add tassels or other embellishments.

You did it! Enjoy your cozy new scarf!
