This pattern has been updated/edited to be a little easier to follow and create. I've also created a YouTube video to go along with the changes in hopes that it will also be an aide to creating the pattern.
I am sharing my first pattern of the site and I think they turned out adorable!
August is half way over, but I couldn't help creating a pair of Barefoot Sandals with Hearts!

Hearts Barefoot Sandals
Level: Beginner
Hook: G/4.25
Materials: Caron Simply Soft (any color)
Key:
CH = chain
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet
MR = magic ring (tutorial here)
SL ST = slip stitch
Pattern: (Make two)
Heart #1: Start with a MR, ch 2, dc 3, hdc 3, dc, ch 15. Sl st to first chain to form toe loop. Hdc 3, dc 3, ch 2, sl st to magic ring. Pull magic ring tight.
Break yarn, weave ends.
Heart #2: Start with a MR, ch 2, dc 3, hdc 3, dc, sl st to center of Heart #1 (opposite of toe loop, see image for position), hdc 3, dc 3, ch 2, sl st to MR. Pull magic ring tight.
Break yarn, weave ends.
(Heart #3: Optional. Repeat instructions for Heart #2 if you would like 3 hearts for your barefoot sandals.)
Ankle Strap: Ch 50, sl st to back of Heart #2. Ch 50 to finish second half of ankle strap. (See images below for reference.)

Note: For extra length on the ankle straps increase the number of chains. For example, if you want the straps to wrap around ankle twice ch 100, instead of ch 50 as instructed above. This pattern is very adaptable. You can add hearts for different feet sizes or subtract hearts for kids' sizes.

I just started crocheting a month ago. I tried this pattern tonight and was skeptical. I was quite impressed with the fact that I was able to crochet hearts! It doesn't look like the pattern exactly, but with a little more practice, I think I can master this. THANKS!

DeleteI don't know whats wrong with me today... I've been crocheting since I was a girl but for some reason I can't get past the first stitches!!! Hellp?!
ReplyDeleteIf you've followed a pattern (doily for example) and it says to chain 3 and then hdc or dc "x" amount of times in the 3rd stitch from the hook to form a circle, I'm using a similar principle to start the first heart. The first line of "Ch 54" is to form one strap of the barefoot sandal.

I usually follow patterns pretty well, but I'm beyond confused here. I chained my 54 stitches and had to stop. A youtube tutorial would be most helpful.

HI I love these and im totally stump please help mine just arnt coming out lol sorry im doing my best after i chain the 5 what do i do it just looks weird if i tc into the 4 th chain
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! Do you see the little key hole in the middle of the hearts in the image? Tc'ing into the 4th chain begins to form that little hole and half of your heart. When you reach line 5 (Chain 15...) you should have 3 half hearts stuck together end to end. After you create your toe loop at line 5, you'll come back down the other side to finish the rest of your hearts. Does that make sense? Please let me know how else I can help. Another follower suggested a YouTube video - and I am looking into that too.

Thank you so much. My problem is once I form the half heart and if I do chain 5 and TC in the fourth chain, and once I am done with the second side, it looks like one side have a big space (the chain five) and the other side it looks fine cause there is no chain five but SL stitch
ReplyDeletePerhaps try only chaining 4 and see if you like that look a bit better? Experiment with the pattern and tweak it if you want it to look tighter and less gappy...

ReplyDeleteAm I correct in the fact that you put 2 tc and 3 dc (5 sts total) all in 1 st? That is where I get a little confused..I am semi new to crochet and this is the first written pattern I have tried to make. Thanks for the pattern, they look awesome!! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Cheryl, that is correct. All 5 sts go in same space. It creates that rounded half of the heart. Thanks for the comment/question!

ReplyDeleteI also am not new to crochet, however mostly afghans I have done and am having an issue with the hearts. They are not coming together like they should. I have tried different ways and also checked Youtube to see if i could find something similar, to no avail. Still trying..

ReplyDeleteI've also reworked the pattern and re-worded it in order to make the entire sandal easier to crochet. I hope you find it improved. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

Just so anyone who wants to do it this way if it's going to be a gift of some sort you can instead weave the chain for the anklet part into it so that it is adjustable and removable so you can add a different colored "Cords/anklet" as I call them.
