Instructions:

Hat Top

Start with a magic loop. (Magic Loop Tutorial)
Rnd 1: Ch 1 (do not count as a stitch here and throughout pattern), 6 sc in Magic loop, sl st to 1st sc. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sp around, sl st to 1st sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc 1, 2 sc in next sp, repeat from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc 2, 2 sc in next sp, repeat from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc 3, 2 sc in next sp, repeat from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (30 sc)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, *sc 4, 2 sc in next sp, repeat from * around, sl st to 1st sc. (36 sc)
Rnd 7 – 14: Continue increasing each round by 6 single crochets in this manner until stitches number 84 sc around.
Transition to ribbing. (See image for example.)

Hat Ribbing (Sides)

From sl st of last row (Rnd 14), ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Row 1: Sc 19 in back loop only to top of hat edge. Skip 1 sp along edge, sl st to next sp. (20 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc 20 in back loop only. (20 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc 20 in back loop only. Skip 1 sp along edge, sl st to next sp. (20 sc)
Rows 4 – 84: Repeat Rows 2 & 3.
Finish, leaving 8 – 12” tail.
Use tail (& tapestry needle) to sew Row 1 and Row 84 together.
Transition to band.

Hat Band

Sl st to join yarn to Row 1 of hat ribbing.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same sp as join. Sc around in each sp (last sc of each ribbing row), sl st to join to first sc. (84 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp as join, sc around, sl st to join. (84 sc)
Row 3 – 4: Repeat Row 2.
Finish off, weave ends.

Hat Bill

Count 28 sc’s from band join sp. Sl st to join yarn at 29th sc.
Row 1: Ch 2, sk 1 sp, 2 dc in next sp, dc 24, 2 dc in next sp, ch 1, sk 1 sp, sl st to hat band. (28 dc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in ch 1 sp, sc 28 across, 2 sc in ch 2 sp, sl st to hat band. (32 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in next 2 sp, sc 32 across, 2 sc in next 2 sp, sl st to hat band. (36 sc)
Finish, weave ends

Flower

I used the flower tutorial from Crochet Geek for the flowers pictured.

Bow

I came up with a very simple pattern to work into a bow.

Ch 8, hdc in 3rd chain from hook, hdc 5. Ch 2, turn, hdc 6 across. Repeat this pattern until your piece measures 12 inches. Form a bow and secure with a piece of yarn or a simple chain. Finish, weave ends.

Add a safety pin or jewelry pin by either sewing or hot gluing to the back of your embellishments to make them detachable. Or, sew your flower, bow or buttons directly to the hat – your preference!
